Important wedding chest called "Cassone" Italy, 18th century

Rectangular Cassone gilt wood and polychrome, 18th century period, richly carved acanthus raised, resting on feet volute. The design of this chest is characterized by the great Italian Rococo style, the superabundant and exaggerated patterns have wavy lines, with opposite movements, capricious, with a very elaborate ornamentation. Wear of gilding and polychrome. Small restorations to predict.

Provenance : according to the oral family tradition, this chest would come from a noble residence of the city of Montagnana, Veneto

About the context

Very widespread already in the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, it is in the Renaissance that the chest becomes the main type of furniture in each house, gaining monumentality and sumptuousness: in fact, other types of furniture intended to contain clothing and other properties begin to appear in the houses.
